Spotlight: J.Crew {Day 5}

In contrast to the previous post, J.Crew has some lovely soft neutral pieces that are as elegant and refined as expected.

This is the Life...

Five days at the beach - sans makeup, a blowdryer and anything more than a swimsuit coverup and PJs. Novels, walks scouring for beach glass, sandwiches on white bread, naps on lounge chairs, sunshine, crashing waves and family.

Eye Candy Friday

Welcome summer and hello again, Mark Salling.  I love the coloring and cool Cali vibe in this GQ spread from last June.  Makes me want to hit the beach with my cruiser.

{Accidental} Copy Cat

On a whim, I bought some fun, aqua colored shades over the weekend at Target. I think they were like $12. The next day I saw Ashley Tisdale sporting an almost identical pair. Hers are Ray-Bans and obviously not an identical price to mine, but I'm cool with the cheapos, as they'll be out of style soon enough and I won't be too upset if something happens to them.  I saw a pair at Nordstrom today for $10 (they don't have the same color online) and here's a similar pair from Fred Flare.

Btw, her other accessory isn't too shabby.  Hiya Zac Efron!

My Must-Haves: Bronzing Edition

Bronzers and self-tanners are my summertime {makeup} best friends. I always feel cuter when I look like I've been kissed by the sun. Who doesn't? I've assembled some of the color achieving products I use in an effort to feel less like a Cullen.
Nars Bronzing Powder Not too shimmery / glittery, blends easily.

Lorac TANtalizer Baked Bronzer Especially good if you already have some color. Adds more of an intense glow.
Lorac Blush/Bronzer Duo Great combo for allover and cheek color.
Jose Maran Bronzing Argan Oil Bronzey shimmer oil. Can be applied to the body, face and hair. Super moisturizing and smells delish.

Tan Towel Self-Tan Towlettes So easy to apply.  No yucky self-tan scent. Great color without streaks.

Jergens Natural Glow Foaming Daily Moisturizer Dries incredibly fast. Very little odor. Natural looking color in very little time. So much better than the lotion.

June Gloom

Every year in LA we have the dreaded June Gloom.  While it hasn't been too bad this time, we've still been exposed to the grey.  So I figured, why not do do a post embracing this universally flattering color.  Grey + white stripes are a favorite combo of mine and a constant in the collections year after year. To incorporate a little sunshine, my go-to accent color is yellow.

Tress Obsessed

I want this hair and it's golden, sexy, beachy perfection.  Of course I find this just days before my appointment to go even darker than I am already.

Give The Cold Shoulder

During my recent dress search, I've pretty much encountered every style and color imaginable (all whilst looking for a strapless black bridesmaid option). So many striking one-shoulder numbers have been catching my eye. They're fun, charming and sexy without being too revealing or fussy. I'm thinking I may have to pick one for the rehearsal dinner.

Avery Bleu's Picks of the Day {Week of 5.01.11}

Why, hello there!

My postings have been a tad infrequent as of late. Not exactly sure why, but I guess part of it is due to the fact that my recent online browsing has been focused on looking for bridesmaids dresses for my bff's wedding.  Who knew finding a black dress would be so difficult?! I've also been on staycations the past few weekends and will be out of town the next two. Bring on the summer - visitors, concerts, parties, weddings, beach time and fun! I'll attempt to be consistent amongst the looming busyness.

Staycation

I'm very excited to be going on a mini-vacay this weekend...in town.  We'll be celebrating my girl Christy's 30th at the London with a day of lounging in a poolside cabana. Later we'll have what's sure to be a delicious dinner at Fig & Olive (I've looked at the menu like five times - what to order, what to order?) and then toasting the birthday gal out on the town. Sounds like fabulous plan to me!

Perfection

Happy Easter, friends!  I had a delightful weekend in Palm Springs with my gals - sunning, drinking, eating, playing games and chatting - what else could you ask for?

New Kicks on the Block

I finally got a new pair of workout shoes, the Nike Livestrong Lunar Haze.  It took a couple weeks to get used to them, but now they're as comfy as can be and I really like the looks of them (the only difference is mine have an all yellow tongue).  Yay!

I also got a new pair of DV by Dolce Vita Wedges for spring/summer at Nordstrom Rack, but can't find them anywhere online.  They look kind of like these, but with a few less straps and they're elasticy.  Same tassel though, which I dig.

On a recent trip to France, Jessica Alba wore the perfect easy, breezy ensemble for traipsing around as we mosey on into warmer temps. Bare legs, covered arms and a hat to shield the sun if it decides to show it's face (or to hide a less than perfect coif).  I re-created her outfit (minus shoes and shades for under $80).

Float Your Boat

The popularity of boat shoes has been on the rise and they've have come a long way from the traditional brown Sperry's from years ago. They can be found in a bevy of colors, patterns and fabric and aren't just for the boys or prepsters. Fortunately there's no yacht needed to sport these casual and comfortable footwear - though wouldn't that be nice.

Is That You, Summertime?

LA has been hot the past couple days and has been reminding me of summer.  I've been going over all my plans and trips for the next few months and can't believe it will actually be summer so soon.

Hats Off to Moi

I've been looking for a new summery fedora to replace the one I have that is crushed and ruined due to too many vacations, suitcases and trips to the pool. Urban Outfitters was the first place I visited for a try-on session. As you may know, seeing a hat online is way different than actually testing it out on your noggin. Cute on the comp doesn't always mean cute on you, especially as many are one size fits all. Luckily I was successful and found two I really liked that fit well and were very affordable - $28! Done and done.

Here are some others I liked during my online search
Nordstrom
Urban Outfitters
J. Crew
Lauren by Ralph Lauren
Tory Burch
Forever 21
Helene Berman
Rag & Bone
Bop Basics
Express
Top Shop
Eugenia Kim

Also, on April 18, there will be some darling Eugenia Kim hats at Target. Here's a peek (I love the mint green one).

Springing Back Into Action

Hello! Anybody out there?! I won't even bother to get into the fact that I have been an awful blogger for the past few months, as clearly it's obvious. So, I will just pick up where I left off...only now its spring instead of winter. In honor of the seasonal change and warmer temps, I picked up this *bright* little number at Old Navy over the weekend. I thought about wearing it on Easter, but decided it was just a bit too Eastery. Perhaps it's first outing will be to the office this week, paired with my rose gold Dolce Vita Sandals & a turquoise bracelet.

Prints + Pattern

I recently realized I tend not to wear a lot of patterns or prints; I don't know why though. I am loving these dresses from J. Crew however. So cute. Perfect for a summer wedding or bridal shower.

PS. Did you notice the pretty green shoes with the multi-colored dress and the yellow shoes with the purple and white one? Perfection! The aqua and white dress would look darling with a colored shoe as well. I think I'd go with yellow, fuchsia or violet.
